Bass Player Magazine has stated, "Steve Bailey is to the 6 string fretless bass, what Columbus is to America".

He has toured and recorded with the likes of Dizzy Gillespie, Willie Nelson, Jethro Tull, Paquito D’rivera, Larry Carlton, and the Rippingtons… and all points in between.

Steve has performed solo concerts and clinics all over the world. He has written six books and released numerous solo CD’s and instructional DVD’s. He has been voted in the top 5 Bass Players in World and was a regular columnist for Bass Player Magazine.

His latest multi-bass production is Warwicks Fuss On The Buss 2, a live DVD, featuring Bootsy Collins, Larry Graham, Robert Trujillo, Lee Sklar, and many others.

For 30 years he has partnered with fellow bassist Victor Wooten in the cutting edge group, Bass Extremes. And most recently with fellow bass legends Lee Sklar and Jonas Hellborg in the three bass group JoStLe. He endorses Warwick basses and amps, BassLines pickups, and D'addario Strings, and is constantly in demand worldwide as a clinician and performer.

Combining 35 years as a working musician and ten years faculty experience at B.I.T. in Hollywood, and another decade at UNC Wilmington and Coastal Carolina University, Steve is a premier “pro/educator”, and is currently the Chair of the Berklee College of Music Bass Department and Artist in Residence at Coastal Carolina University.
Steve made his first nationally released record in 1983 with Paquito D'Rivera, Then everyone from the Rippingtons, to Jethro Tull, to Willie Nelson, to Kitaro, and all points in between. He has toured the world with most of these artists in support of the many releases.

His first solo album, Dichotomy, on JVC records, in 1992, featured Dizzy Gillespie, Larry Carlton, Gregg Bissonette, and many others. The subsequent JVC release, Evolution, featured Jon Anderson, Kitaro, and Carl Verheyan.
So Low... Solo, released in 2008 is entirely solo bass, focused on original compositions and standards by Pat Metheny, Charlie Parker, and others.

Carolina, a collection of 17 duets (bass and one other person) released in late 2021, features Willie Nelson, Ian Anderson, Ron Carter, Mike Stern, Victor Wooten, and a dozen more amazing collaborators.
S’Low Down, Bass Extreme’s new release is set to drop on August 26, 2022, and tours throughout this year, and next, in support.
